hi, i’m rz

i build software, play classical guitar, and write essays

aka Rodrigo Guzman. i grew up in Bolivia and immigrated to the US to study physics, math, and CS. i then left a phd in theoretical physics to go write software in Silicon Valley. over the last twenty years i’ve co-founded and sold a company, worked at several startups, and then at Google. most recently i’ve been working on tools for humans and AI agents to work together.

i’ve been playing guitar for thirty years. for the last ten i’ve studied classical seriously, first with Koh Kazama and then with Michael Partington. in 2022 i co-founded the Brooklyn Classical Guitar Society.

i have a blue belt with many stripes in BJJ. i’ve trained at Fabio Clemente’s and PSABJJ in New York, and at Zenith with Robert Drysdale in Vegas.

my essays, mostly about how to live, are on substack.

after long stints in San Francisco and New York, i now live in Seattle with my dog Blanco.
